Named for the original private owners; the directors of Shell, this is an iconic beach with a dive site to match. Director's Bay is known for its coral rubble covered beach, turquoise waters and impressive wall diving.
Access to the beach does involve a cement staircase and walking across coral rubble, so booties are highly recommended.
Once in the water the reef starts almost immediately, to the left you will be greeted by a sloping reef, starting at 5m and descending towards 30m at the bottom, broken up by sandy slopes. You will also see the remnants of a net which used to be stretched across the bay to separate the owners from the ocean’s inhabitants, now overgrown by corals and sponges and home to many reef species.
As you move further towards the edge of the bay the iconic wall will come into focus, covered by colourful sponges and soft corals.
Keep one eye on the blue and you might get lucky with large schools of creole wrasse, hunting jacks and the occasional turtle.
